Halloween Costumes for Coyotes
Coyotes don’t celebrate Halloween or wear costumes to represent their fears, but if they did, they’d have plenty of material to work with. For the most part, humans would be the source of the scares. It’s baffling how some people, with all the available knowledge, technology, and adaptability, can still be so terrified or hateful toward these canids. Yet here we are. Some resist anything that challenges their ultimate goal: to eradicate coyotes.
Here are some of the costumes the song dogs might wear:
*The Psychopathic Predator: This human is brimming with hate and anger, often directed at wildlife like coyotes, wolves, and bears. They believe that “the only good coyote is a dead coyote” and take pride in collecting bodies. Adorned with traps and guns, they grin ghoulishly as they celebrate death and spread lies. Those who see through the misinformation recognize a monster with a charcoal heart, driven by destruction and blocking true coexistence.
*The Frightening Feeder: They lure coyotes with promises of nourishment, the coyote version of the stranger in the white van offering “free candy.” They trick coyotes into believing humans are food sources and erode the natural boundaries that keep them safe. The easy meal comes with dark consequences.
*The Chaotic Dog Guardian: This person strolls through coyote territory with arrogance or ignorance, allowing their unleashed, untrained dog to rampage through bushes and fields, often triggering encounters. The worst among them deliberately use their dogs to provoke coyotes. They refuse to take accountability and make life harder for both wildlife and other park users.
*The Fear-Monger: They spend their days spreading panic about coyotes, recycling myths and folktales that ignore science and paint these intelligent animals as bloodthirsty villains. They are often perpetually online ready to challenge any compassionate message about the coyote.
Have a safe Halloween and don’t be a source of fear for our wild neighbours.
